About Heather

Heather works with both children and adults. She has experience with children on the autism spectrum, and specialises in reversing histamine intolerance and other severe food intolerances. She has worked with a variety of people who initially can only eat 2-3 foods without reacting. Within weeks, new foods are successfully introduced and they go on to tolerate 99-100% of foods.

Heather recognises that there is usually more than just one health issue present. Many of her clients are simultaneously dealing with chronic diseases like CFS, Ulcerative Colitis, Lyme, Fibromyalgia and more. She has a good understanding of these diseases and how they are also linked to gut health. She offers a holistic approach in supporting her clients and her suggestions can work alongside any other treatment you may be doing.

my story

For as long as I could remember I had digestive problems. This mainly consisted of stomach aches that left me lying on the couch after dinner every night. At the age of 5 my doctor gave me a prescription for antacids and told my mom I should take them for life. Uneasy about the idea of giving a child prescription drugs, she only gave them in cases of severe pain, and slightly altered my diet to remove the foods that seemed to be problematic. The diet changes helped the problem significantly.

Fast forward 10 years. and I was plagued with all the "normal" teenage problems like painful and heavy periods, acne, and glandular fever. When I left for college the stomach aches returned, along with intense fatigue, and eventually the freshman 15 weight gain. I took 2 hour naps every day around 3pm despite getting 8-9 hours of sleep each night. I was exhausted and sick.  My diet wasn't great but I had no understanding of real food and how our bodies are designed to function.

That summer I started my health journey.  I transitioned from to vegan overnight. Initially I felt great. I gained some energy and the stomach aches eased up mainly because I was cooking my own food. These benefits lasted for about 6 months until slowly my energy started to fall again, this time bringing depression with it. Unfortunately I was convinced that veganism was the healthiest lifestyle, so rather than listening to my body's strong cravings for protein, I tried out the more serious vegan fads like, juicing, and eating 100%  raw. You name it, I've done it. The energy didn't return, the depression lingered and I still had stomach problems.

Two years into veganism, during one of my daily naps I had a dream where I was eating a nice juicy steak and knew that was the missing link.  I started incorporating grass-fed, pastured meats into my diet and my energy began to increase to the point where I actually craved exercise. This was such a foreign desire that proved I was on the right path. Around this time I discovered the Weston A Price foundation and incorporated many of the previously demonized foods like butter, raw milk, and bone broth in my diet.

In 2011, I was introduced to the GAPS diet. I learned about the connection between our digestive tract and our mental and physical health. I was fascinated and couldn't get enough. I devoured the GAPS book and started immediatly. While I went on the GAPS protocol to heal stomach issues and food sensitivities, I found that every other "normal" problem was resolved. My PMS lifted, my skin was clear and glowing, I felt incredible and was no longer addicted to sugar. This was one of the most foundational and significant experiences of my life.

10 years after my GAPS journey began you can still find me talking about nutrition and GAPS to anyone who will listen. I am passionate about helping people find the root cause of their "incurable" disease and getting results. that

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of California, Santa Barbara.

  • Certified Holistic Nutrition Consultant (Bauman College 2014).

  • Certified GAPS (Gut and Psychology Syndrome) practitioner.

The GAPS diet was created by Dr. Natasha Campbell McBride after healing her young son of autism. It recognises that the gut is the second brain, and when the gut is in an unhealthy state, the brain can not function properly. This is the reason that all autistic children have chronic digestive issues from bloated bellies to severe constipation. The GAPS diet brings recovery by healing the walls of the digestive tract so that food particles can not leak into the blood stream and cross the blood brain barrier. The GAPS diet has had unparalleled success at curing autism and continues to grow in popularity world wide. The GAPS diet is recommended for the following:

  • learning: ADD, ADHD, autism, dyslexia

  • digestive: colitis, IBS, constipation, leaky gut, food allergies and intolerances, SIBO, candida

  • mental: depression, anxiety, schizophrenia, bi-polar disorder, rage

  • physical: eczema, psoriasis, dandruff, acne, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome, epileptic seizures
