Easy roast bone marrow recipe

bone marrowBone marrow is probably the most mild of what I would consider and organ meat. It's virtually flavourless but when roasted with some salt and pepper it becomes a delicacy that you can enjoy in place of butter on bread, or eaten straight with a spoon!  When I roast beef bones, my daughter and husband start hanging around the kitchen, spoon in hand ready to fight for first bite! The bone marrow is where most of our immune cells, including stem cells are born and grow to maturity so there is reason to believe that consuming marrow from grass-fed clean animals supports our immune system. In fact for people who are ravenous on the GAPS diet, it is encouraged to eat marrow to their hearts content. It is very rich and I have found it satiates even the hungriest GAPster because it is so high in nutrition .Ingredients:

  • 4 lbs/ 2 Kgs of beef bones, I prefer them to be sliced long ways so that the marrow is easy to scoop out with a spoon
  • 1 tsp celtic sea salt or himalayan salt
  • fresh cracked pepper
  • lemon juice (optional)

Directions:

  • Heat oven to 450 F
  • Put bones, open side up on a baking tray
  • Sprinkle with salt and fresh cracked pepper
  • Roast in the oven for 10-15 minutes until the top becomes slightly brown and crusty.
  • Remove and let cool.
  • Scoop out and enjoy with a spoon or on bread of your choice
