An easy, natural way to whiten your teeth!

teethWhen I lived in the states it was rare to get comments on the whiteness of my teeth. Not because they aren't white, but because everyone in America has pretty white teeth.  Dental coverage is part of most insurance plans and cosmetic whitening is a standard procedure (we also don't drink 8-12 cups of tea a day).  In fact,  it wouldn't be an exaggeration to say that most people whiten their teeth at home regularly with some type of gel or white strips.  However, even the people that practice regular whitening know that these procedures can't be beneficial to their dental health.I used to occasionally whiten my teeth years ago and remember all too well, the burning sensation that my gums felt during the process and the sensitivity that my teeth went through for the remaining days. Talk about a way to de-mineralize your teeth! In England, people commented frequently on the whiteness of my teeth, and ask me my secret. It's been years since I've whitened my teeth or even used store bought toothpaste so it has nothing to do with new dental technology.  My secret ingredients happens to be thousands of years old..Activated CharcoalAbout once a week I brush my teeth with activated charcoal. Activated charcoal is a wonderful substance, that has been used for centuries as a detoxifying agent.  It is extremely helpful in cases of food poisoning as it effectively binds to toxins and escorts them from your system.  Not many people realize that it can do the same for your teeth, and whiten them in the process. It is rumored that Hippocrates used activated charcoal on his teeth regularly. You can get activated charcoal in most health food shops or drugstores. Make sure to get the capsules and not the tablets.Instructions:1. If you want to dramatically whiten your teeth its best to open a capsule and pour the powder into a little dish (don't do this near the carpet!).2. Dip your toothbrush into the powder and gently brush on your teeth. You don't need to use the whole capsule each time as a little goes a long way.3.  Leave the powder on for a few minutes or as long as you can handle. Then spit it out, rinse your mouth and do it over again. The first time I tried this my teeth whitened quite a few shades in just 4 rounds.  It probably took 15 minutes and there was no pain involved. To maintain your new white teeth you can either add a capsule to your toothpaste (hopefully fluoride-free) and brush regularly or repeat the above process once a week.
